A Hindu scholar, theologian, and saint, Sri Raghavendra (c.1595-c.1671) was a Hindu. He was also referred to as Sudha Parimalacharya (Sudhā Parima’ācārya). His varied oeuvre includes commentaries on Madhva, Jayatirtha, and Vyasatirtha’s works, Dvaita’s interpretation of the Principal Upanishads, and a treatise on Purva Mimamsa. From 1624 to 1671, he served as Pontiff of Matha at Kumbakonam. Sri Raghavendra Swamy was also an accomplished Veena player and, under the name of Venu Gopala, he wrote many songs. Every year, his shrine in Mantralayam attracts thousands of tourists.
